Dolly Parton's America
Hosted by Jad Abumrad
In this podcast Dolly Parton gives us a glimpse into her life by telling touching stories from her childhood all the way through to the influence she’s had on the world today. A lot of the stories are so emotional and delivered so genuinely that you can’t help but like her. A few highlights are personal stories about the log cabin in Tennessee she grew up in, her ascent to fame working on the Porter Wagoner Show, her subsequent split from him and touching insights into the struggles she’s faced by being labeled an “embarrassment to feminism”.
Coming from a generation that didn’t grow up with Dolly Parton’s music, I’ve loved listening to this podcast. I now finally understand why she’s admired across the world and that the personality cult surrounding her is absolutely justified. Even if you don’t consider yourself a Dolly Parton or country music fan I would recommend giving this eight part series a go. The world needs a bit of humility, compassion and positivity right now and this podcast has been a welcome break from the doom and gloom of the news.
