Lake Johnson isn’t so much a walk or a hike, but more literally, a Must Explore. There are no proper trails but it’s a great spot for a short walk and a breath of fresh air right here in Frankton.
Take the turn off Frankton Road toward City Impact Church and drive on up the gravel road for about 1km. You’ll come to a spot that has some parking on the right hand side and a gate on the left, park up here and make sure you close the gate again behind you. Follow the tracks towards the lake for about five minutes and you’ll get to your first stunning view. The best thing about Lake Johnson is that it’s a bit of a hidden gem and there is usually no one else around. If you want to, you can explore whichever way you like from here, but there are some good spots where you can get down to the water towards the right so I prefer strolling that way.
I’ve really learned to value walks that you can’t “complete” as there’s no rush to tick the box and head back home to get this or that done. It feels like a real treat to take the time to just wander around enjoying nature until you’ve cleared your head, as a bonus I think it makes you more efficient at getting through your to-do list later on as well.
